Mobility in Slovakia
Mobility in Slovakia took place from 27th May to 1st June 2013 in Presov.
On the day of arrival of all project participants the guided tour around the historic city centre took place, which was followed by a welcome dinner where we discussed the program of the mobility and project’s tasks.
On the second day of the mobility we started with a tour around the Private Primary School with Nursery for pupils and children with autism, where our guests were welcomed in a traditional way by our staff and pupils in traditional folk clothes with bread and salt.
During the morning hours the project participants were showed the Nursery, The Primary department, the counseling centre, the therapy rooms and the boarding school. In each class the participants could see the video showing the teaching strategies and activities of the class.
After the tour around the school, each participant country prepared their Comenius corners. The Comenius corners were introduced to staff and children of the school, to parents and public, who were invited to this event as a part of an Open-day at our school.
Organizing an Open-day was one of our tasks we were responsible for this project, where we invited professionals as well as public to promote our institution and our participation in project Special Solution for Special Children. A part of the Open-day were presentations of national holidays and festivals of every participating country to promote the international multi-cultural aspect of the project and European integration.
Parents together with staff and children of our school prepared home-made traditional lunch for the international participants.
In the afternoon organized the visit to another Special Needs School in Presov consisting of Primary School, Secondary School and Practical School for children with various disabilities such as mental disability, physical disability, autism and complex needs.
In the evening our guests were taken to the second biggest city in Slovakia, Kosice, which was the European Capital of Culture for 2013.
On the third day of the mobility we visited the historical and cultural sites which were specially chosen with aim to promote the best examples of inclusion of people with special need. One of the sites we wanted to show was Stara Lubovna castle and the nearby open-air folk architecture museum with exhibition in Braille for visually impaired people and tablets with sing language tour guide for hearing impaired people. The main aim of this visit was our attempt to provide the tour with many multi-sensory inputs as an opening experience for our following presentation and discussion about a method of sensory integration.
The following day was dedicated to workshops and presentation of methods used at our school: Art therapy, Physiotherapy, Hydrotherapy, Intensive interaction and PECS (picture exchange communication program). In the afternoon the project meeting took place, where We discussed completed task of the project and task which need to be done in the following months. We exchanged our experiences about good practice and implementation of methods seen at previous mobility meetings.
On the fifth day of the mobility we took our guests to other places where they could experience multisensory stimulation (cave, forest) and at the same time we wanted to create less formal occasion for individual discussions and opinion exchange between the participants of the project.
