The school was established in 1969 as a Primary Special School with boarding school.

At the beginning there were five classes and 88 students.

Now there are approximately 260 students with mild, moderate and profound mental retardation.

There is the Special Primary School, the Special Secondary School since 1999 and the Vocational School since 2002

In September2013 there will be open special nursery for children with moderate and profound mental disability

The school has its own summer resort on the lake where annually are organized summer camp

Education of children with Special Educational Needs:

Children are taught according to individual educational programme (IPET) which is based on the National Curriculum for students with special educational needs

IPET is made by SEN teachers, psychologists and school counselor

Children are taught in group which number depend on level of disability, up to 16 for students with mild retardation, up to 8 for students with moderate, up to 4 for students with profound disability

Students in the Primary and the Secondary school are taught general subjects and in the Vocational school they are being trained in particular profession such as a hairdresser, chef, baker, car mechanic and shop assistant
